Like you, I believe the Rhodes is the ultimate electric piano. A treasure, a true classic... and the hippest electric keyboard ever made.

No sample-based instrument can capture the vibe, sound, feel and looks of a restored Rhodes piano. It's up to the fans, players, musicians and qualified techs to keep this wonderful instrument in the forefront of modern music.

In 1989, I began my journey to become a tech by studying with the world's first and foremost authority on the Rhodes, Steve Woodyard. (Steve was one of the lead Rhodes engineers under Harold Rhodes at the original Fender factory in Fullerton, California.)

I went on to hone my skills the only way it can be done: by study and practice. Over the years, I have developed my own unique procedures and modifications to meet the demands of today's players.

A tip for all Rhodes fans looking for a good tech: Ask about their training, years of experience and references. Would you want to buy a Rhodes or have your piano serviced by someone who works on Rhodes part time as a hobby, or by someone who restores them full time for a living?

It takes years of study to know by feel and sound what a Rhodes is telling you, how its dimensional standards relate to each other, how every piano is unique unto itself, and how to bring out its hidden spirit. Developing this deeper understanding takes time. There is simply no substitute for experience.

Whatever model you have, it can be made to play and sound better—in the right hands.
